The relics of Saint Bernadette are well on their way to tour the world.
After having gone to meet the Spanish, Germans, Italians, then Americans, and this since 2017, here they are again this time for the very first time in the United Kingdom. A unique opportunity for the British who cannot go to Lourdes or Nevers to meet Saint Bernadette and benefit from the particular charisms of Lourdes.
"I am not charged with making you believe it, I am charged with telling you."
This is the mission that was entrusted to Saint Bernadette by "the lady" who appeared to her when she was only 14 years old at the grotto of Massabielle. Today, the little saint is fulfilling her role well, since she is the one who travels to meet all those people who have no opportunity to see her or to know her.
The Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Vincent Nichols, welcomes the arrival of the relics: "The pilgrimage that the relics of St. Bernadette will undertake this autumn provides us with an opportunity to actively witness to our faith, uniting with one another in our many communities to encounter God's love and find spiritual, emotional and psychological healing and renewal."
In England, Scotland and Wales, the relics have been traveling across the United Kingdom since September 2, and will eventually travel more than 22k kilometers and visit more than 30 English, Scottish and Welsh dioceses until October 30.
As in Lourdes, the relics will be on display to the public all day and torchlight processions will be organized to venerate the little Saint.
This magnificent initiative to share the life of Saint Bernadette with as many people as possible is creating real fraternity movements in the United Kingdom.
Between September 24 and 30, the Scottish shrine of Carfin welcomed an average of 5,000 believers each day to pray before the relics of St. Bernadette, which were displayed in their replica of the grotto in Lourdes.
